I’ve wanted to try Tealips since forever but never got the chance to because it is so far away. I’ve heard great things about this place and seen countless pictures of their shaved ice and waffles on my FB newsfeed. And so I told myself that it is time to make the trip down there and try their shaved ice and waffles.
The drive down to Tealips wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be but parking was a bit difficult since there is a limited number of parking spots in front of their cafe and you only get to park for 30 minutes. Luckily we found a parking spot quickly and decided to take our chances on the 30 minutes parking rule (we ended up staying there for over an hour, and luckily the car was still there and ticketless! ).
First impression of the place: very clean, dainty, and I like how it was bright and welcoming. You can actually see the people make your drinks, sandwiches, shaved ice, and waffles!
The waffle combo comes with 2 waffles, while the regular one only comes with 1 waffle.
TT and KD shared the cacao shaved ice. I didn’t get to try it but it looks really good!
Toppings include: blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, banana, vanilla ice cream, and mochi.
RB and I shared the matcha shaved ice.
Toppings include: strawberries, bananas, pineapple, red bean, mochi, and vanilla ice cream. It was absolutely delicious!
I’ve had shaved ice at a few places before (Pearl Castle, this stand at Crystal Mall, Aberdeen) and this place by far has the best shaved ice. Why? Mainly because the ice itself is not just ice. The cacao and matcha powder nicely blends into the ice creating ice that is coated with the cacao and matcha powder (does that make sense?). Whereas other places just have all the toppings on top and bland ice on the bottom.
I absolutely love waffles so it was a no brainer that we had to order it. The waffle combos come with 2 waffes. This particular one has one that is sprinkled with cinnamon powder with sliced almonds while the other one is drizzled with chocolate syrup and topped with sliced almonds. The waffles were really good! They weren’t soggy and soft despite being covered with melted ice cream for a long time.
Tealips has a big drink selection, ranging from smoothies, protein shakes, full leaf teas, to a variations of the original milk tea.
If you’re ever in the Middlegate Mall area, I would highly recommend checking this place out! And be sure to bring a friend because there is no way you can finish a portion of shaved ice by yourself. Plus everything taste better when you share right?
